My First Fashion Photography Shoot.

The images in this blogpost aren't edited yet and are screenshots of the original file which is the reason for the poor quality images.

Last Friday, I collaborated with my friend, photographer Alice Hayes to shoot our first fashion photography and styling shoot. The shoot was on location at abandoned night club Dance Academy which shut to the public in 2006 so we really did have to pull out all the cards to gain access to the building making the shoot more exclusive and maybe even the first fashion photography shoot in the building.

The building opened in 1898 as the Palace Theatre where the famous Laurel and Hardy preformed in their time. The theatre was built with the Flemish Renaissance style with Art Nouveau style interior with nautical features making the building Grade II listed. These timeless features are slowly deteriorating making this the perfect location with contrast from the classic lavish and luxurious, original interiors to the damp, grimy, neglected room which hasn't yet started the renovation process. Allowing us more rooms to experiment with for our shoot.

The first room I fell in love with and knew we would be using was what we kept calling the 'cloud room'. This room had a very luxurious grecian ora with the pillars and golden colouring with marble from corner to corner of the room. It has a greek mythologic feel to the room with the cloud painting framed in rich ovals. The room has a very powerful atmosphere which was completely perfect for the fashion shoot.

In this room I planned to display my 50's inspired dress with it's classic cut which has an interesting boat neckline and pleated skirt to add volume to the knee-length number which I styled with a classic pointed toe heel in white or rose gold and geometric rose gold hoop earrings. The geometry of my styling linked back the inspiration for the dress design art movement, Bauhaus. The dress looked gorgeous in this room and they really complimented one another.

The second styled outfit was the dress with a cape styled over the top. This piece was my final piece for my last years project 'dress and print design' at college. The cape was again inspired by art movement Bauhaus in its print design as well as Geometric structure.

These garments were styled with the geometric rose gold hoops once again and the rose gold triangular heels. These photos were taken in an old Art Nouveau circular window. I love these images and I think that Alice has really captured and displayed my garments beautifully.

The final outfit was the cape styled with high-waisted black hot pants and chunky Topshop snakeskin heels paired with over sized circular hoops earrings again from Topshop. In this shoot I was steering away from the 50's feel of the previous shoot and looking for a more grungy new age fashion shoot with a grimy abandoned background in contrast with Ashlee's very strong and powerful positions and stances this photo shoot really really works.

Make-up: I firstly used MACs studio sculpt foundation in NW20 which I set with MAC's studio fix powder in N5. I then contoured Ashlee's face with the Sleek contour kit and added MAC's peaches blush to apples of her cheeks for a natural but still dramatic cheekbone. On her eyes I primed them using Urban Decay's eyeshadow primer potion then used the Naked palette for eyeshadows Virgin, Naked and Buck as well as MAC's naked pigment to create the natural eyeshadow look. On her lips Ashlee is wearing Rimmel Apocalips in Stella 501. I kept her make-up the same through out the day and I only had to retouch on the lips.

I would like to say a massive thank you to the team behind the photo shoot for making these gorgeous, powerful, professional images happen. We all worked so well as a team as we were totally on the same page with strong communication.
